Poor Bok Joo! Name * Add a display name. I mean I like Bok-ju a lot better, but it’s easier for me to feel sympathy for the pressure Shi-ho feels than for Bok-ju’s frankly ridiculous obsession over this guy she barely knows, because he held an umbrella for her one time. Uncle Dae-ho finds Dad drinking and tries to stop him. his actions are making me fall harder in this drama. Exactly, I understand her, if i were her i would be angry, they left her out, when Nan Hee knew about BJ's secret they should've told her then, I don't understand the idea of leaving her out, she will understand her friend, that's what friends are for. I will also agree that corporal punishment is a concern. But the lack of A list stars means less of a ratings draw for the Korean public. Yeah that was cringeworthy. Now I know.. whenever someone is mean to me, I will just look at that person and say, "I sympathize with your lack of love. It's really nice. This concept of being a 'female' was being ingrained in Bok Joo. After dinner Joon-hyung takes Bok-ju to a club to work out her feelings. Granted this doesn't excuse any of the things she's done, but Shi-ho is more pitiful than menacing to me. Dad is so angry that Coach Choi tells Bok-ju to run, and they silently head back to school. it's her character and selfishness that drive people away from her. He sends her another text, and this time the chime from her phone gets her out of bed to check her messages. Anyways, this was a realllllly hard episode for me to watch honestly. While I don't feel sympathy for her, her trajectory makes sense. Hope not some noble idiot where he will distance himself from bok joo and accept shi ho. I really do agree. But I don't hate her to the point I want her off my screen. Who knows, maybe that's the point the writer is trying to make - that the type of family she grew up in caused her to be that way. However, I am a college instructor, and there have definitely been times I wanted to take a broom to a student, so I'm not judging . Um... what? FB.init({ She just feels like she only has an interest in gymnastics if it goes well for her, which is totally human and an accurate sort of mentality for someone her age. I read the recap even though I won't be able to see the episode yet. And accepts that. The father as well.... he hit the uncle so hard that he had a bruise? What's with the corporal punishment though. (function(d, s, id) { Is Bok-joo's family perfect though? It really is heartbreaking when you are the last person to know important things among your friends. Ah the bitter pangs of your first love! She seems so confused and so prone to lashing out, and she lacks what grounds Bok-ju the most--family and friends. I know they can't beat the celebrity power house that is The Legend of the Blue Sea but in terms of story and acting I like our weightlifting fairy so much more! it is so relatable and touches my heart. Wahhh I cannot wait to see Bok Joo to eventually realize that she likes Joon Hyung instead of Jae Yi! She tries to do everything that she wasn’t able to do because of weightlifting. I may not like Coach Choi’s corporal punishment of Bok-ju, but she did warn her what could happen if she disobeyed her restrictions, and at least it got through to Bok-ju that this isn’t a joke. She needs help. She is decided to take a break during the winter. He likes her just like that! But in some ways Bok Joo is too perfect, in how good a person she is. So I can in some ways understand why she is clinging onto him like drowning person does to a lifebuoy. It's unfortunate because Shi-ho could really use a positive role model/mentor in her life right now, and Dr. Go is one of the only people who sees what a hard time she's having. or (function(d, s, id) { Although i think he's slowly realizing that he likes her. Shi-ho needs to remember she left him first and he's moving on. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo EP 11 Eng Sub - Bok Joo is in a slump. the cuteness, romance, fluffyness, comedy and heartfelt scenes are all here. A competitive swimmer crosses paths with his childhood friend, a rising weight lifting star, and realizes that she has a secret crush on his cousin. I would love to have a friend him. You can bet there would be threats of lawsuits if anything like that occurred in the West. I can’t wait for that moment when Bok-ju looks up and sees Joon-hyung standing beside her, already loving her for who she is, right now, imperfections and all. Laneige! And then there's Baek In Ha, who is just so extra and cracktastically crazy. I like that the “sports school” setting is more than just a backdrop, anyway. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo 2016 7+ 1 Season Romantic TV Dramas A competitive swimmer crosses paths with his childhood friend, a rising weight lifting star, and realizes that she has a secret crush on his cousin. He chatters that it’s not like she needs to diet anymore, then looks like he wants to bite his tongue off for reminding her that she won’t be seeing Jae-yi anymore. I hope she learns from her actions this time (and how it made her feel) that she needs to recognise that she can't force Joon Hyung into a relationship and she needs to sort out her life. I understand it may be a cultural thing, but corporal punishment in a college setting is just wrong. This sort of relationship development is my favourite, and I like that we can see how he's slowly starting to realise his own feelings. Once she’s gone, it suddenly hits Joon-hyung why her story about the coach finding her weight loss diary doesn’t seem right. BJ's father is scary.i get it BJ hurt his feelings for lying, but acting like he's going to beat his only daughter, you'd think she killed someone.it's triggering for me because my parents hurt me physically if i made a mistake when i was a child.didn't bear a grudge tho.asian parents*sigh*. It’s been a nearly perfect journey from beginning to … Continue reading "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju: Episode 16 (Final)" So much I didn't like in this episode I almost dropped it. She acted impulsively by taking Bok-ju’s weight-loss diary to her coaches, but I appreciate that she regretted her actions when she saw how much Bok-ju was hurt by it. I don't care that he's sick. But her dad is paying for it, so yes it affects him just as much as her. I guess, I just want to say that many a times, we've forgotten that the world is made up of people with different experiences and values and thus, they react in different ways to the same issue. Whereas with JH, she's still pretty much friendzoned him so it's easier to be all physical with him. I am not pontificating, just trying to explain that the coach is nit some crazy abusing bitch but really caring. Nan-hee tells Coach Choi the whole story while Seon-ok listens from around the corner, looking hurt to have been left out of the loop. To be seen, to be heard, to be loved unconditionally is the greatest gift you can give someone, and he does it all the time. Bok Joo was not treated like a female before because she was a weightlifter. So cute. So Shi-ho is still maddening and I don't much like her, but imo her motivations seem real and compelling as far as 2nd-lead-motivations go. The coaches getting angry and BEATING her. She and Coach Choi stop at a convenience store for a drink, and the coach says that she understands her father’s reaction. How dare Coach spank her like she was a child and with a broom stick! Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, She's adorable. And really reality isn't like drama life. I agree. This episode was on the really emotional side so I was so happy when Joonhyung came back for some cuteness. Felt genuinely sad for Bok-ju. and how he took good care of her feeding her, stopping her from eating the raw meat and cleaning her sleave from the sauce!! I think that age might be different in Korea though? I definitely agree. It really hurts when you thought someone as you bestest friend, no secret and all and suddenly biggest thing happen and you're the last one to know. It hurt so much seeing her and the others around her so hurt. We don't have to agree with their decisions, but we could accept that that's how they deal with it... and sit back, relax and enjoy the show? I love this show very much! Of course there's a lot that she needs to learn, but I think her process is one of the hardest because right now it seems like she has zero emotional support system. Everything else aside, I really appreciated JH in this episode because he really cared about Bok Ju. Like the breakup happened months ago and it was her decision, how can she make a claim on him at all?! Ah, Young love. As long as Bok-ju refused to share what she’s thinking with anyone, her coaches and father were going to continue to be disappointed by Bok-ju’s actions. I desperately need one..? Also completely agree about going directly to her father being strange but accept that culturally in Korea, parents are much more involved in their lives/studies/career choices. Girl needs to get a hold of herself. :] they have many more beautiful colors~! However, her…, Lee Young-Joon’s family runs a large company and he works as the vice-president of the company. This shi ho girl need to be punch. And since she is seen as so strong (even by herself) and never needing help, she's never received that. I'm furious at the writer for not resolving their friendship in this episode. I can see Bok-ju succeeding because she has so many people around her that love her and want to help her, but Shi-ho? Even though I feel bad for her, I think this is a necessary angst that she must through. Despite his yelping to watch where she grabbed, I don't think he was that bothered. i do sympathize with her and i get that she's being like this because she's all alone and she doesn't have friends to turn to (and of course she feels pressured by her family but then again everyone in the drama is pressured in their own way plus like you said, bokjoo's family isn't well-off financially either so that doesn't make siho any less different from bokjoo in terms of financial issues). She acts nice when she's on the top not because she's kind, but because of her twisted superiority complex. They should be having discussions and not making decisions for her like the decision to bulk up was made between her dad and the coaches. Not really sure. js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; Did they think I couldn't understand their situation and comfort/help them? I don't know, for me Bok Joo was already contemplating on outing herself, and I've much preferred it that way. But seeing Bokju jumping through her first small hurdle made me reflect back on my own experiences and put me back through those exact same feelings she's dealing with me. She tells him about her great strength, and that she actually likes Big Bang much more than classical music, hee. First I have to talk about Siho. She is hurting herself and the people around her. Bok-ju’s dad has taken to his bed (after giving Uncle Dae-ho a lovely shiner) and is refusing to go to his dialysis, so Bok-ju heads home to visit him. As much as I understand Shi ho's stress, I just can't bring myself to understand her ways of dealing with it. Lovely comment. I don't like Coach Choi's approach when she discovers the real reason Bok Joo is going to the weight clinic. ? And that complex gives her this feeling of entitlement: she lashes out when things are going badly because she feels the world owes her something. :'(. And so are the ratings. Her body language was so clear – she didn't want to do it – but all her coaches cared about was getting what they wanted out of her. Joon-hyung’s aunt invites him to dinner tonight for Jae-yi’s birthday, and he accepts. It would have been good, had Jae-yi/Joon Hyung seen her with that lipstick. They’d only spent one night away before he’d chickened out and gone home, and she’d felt betrayed. Everyone has problems. It did leave a bad taste in my mouth and it did make me do a double take on the dad's character who so far I had thought was a "rough around the edges but soft on the inside" dad. It cracks me up whenever he thinks he stepped in it with regards to JY and he makes that little face, but so far she has blithely not been bothered in the way he seemed to expect. But everything he did in this episode (except giving her the lipstick) including the emotional blackmailing with refusing treatment just didn't sit right with me. He sighs that she can’t give up, wanting her to see her goal through to the end; he thinks her winning a gold medal will prevent her from feeling the regret Dad has felt. They have a mind of their own and their own sense of right and wrong and corporal punishment here is just unwarranted. In the start of this episode, Shi Ho dashed back to pick up the diet diary because her guilt and regret was eating her up but obviously it was too late. When Coach Choi arrives at the gym to find that Bok-ju hasn’t returned yet, she grows angry all over again. I'm not saying that Bok Joo's family is perfect but you can't say they are not loving. In this site and many of the other sites I saw comments where some viewers were disgruntled with the behavior of the father and coaches and some even said they were illogical. Bok-ju starts to cry softly, though she cheers a bit to hear that Jae-yi was worried when she didn’t make her appointment. But you don't see them going and sabotaging other people's chance at success. Anyone else noticed the casual skinship? Oh it does look like their Milk Bluring. FAIL! After hearing the explanation, a much calmer Coach Choi sits Bok-ju down and tells her how she ran away from home over a guy once, her love making her forget all about weightlifting. -I'm sure things are different since she is an elite athlete, and perhaps because it is Korea, but to get her father's permission to have her increase weight class without discussing it with her seems reprehensible. She sees Joon-hyung’s earlier text about Jae-yi’s birthday, and the one he just sent simply asking if she’s okay. It was ingrained in her by her dad that a weightlifter and female are mutually exclusive. Beating comes from heaven" type,(doesn't have quite the eng equivalent form my native language),and a broom stick was small matter,u could be beat up with a belt...Those who live in this type of countries and are older know for sure...The method is wrong but one must live in that part as well to understand the mentality(history, treatment etc.) FAIL! A spunky female weightlifter and free-spirited male swimmer meet on campus, only to find out their pasts may be intertwined. In her heart, she tells Jae-yi the truth about herself — that she’s a student at Haneul Sport University, and that she’s a weightlifter. Please enter your username or email address. hs.src = ('//s10.histats.com/js15_as.js'); Now, lets see where this goes. So that's how acceptable corporal punishment was back then (around 15 years ago). I would totally agree IF she was paying for it all herself. And it was totally needed after the tears ? I don't make them my new best friend. So what if he like Bok-ju? Like, a constant need to touch but not only romantically, but to express closeness and affection? She is constantly working hard and it is good to see that her efforts are paying off. I kinda hope she ends up with Joonhyung's friend, just because they're both such adorkable and loyal bffs. Dad's out of control anger and readiness to BEAT her. He drops Bok-ju of at the dorm doors, and she thanks him, saying that she had a good time, “thanks to you.” He returns the sentiment, saying that he had fun thanks to her. I guess what I'm saying is it's not as jarring to me. It was nice to see the coaches protecting her tho. Korean society is complex. I swear, it's always in a tight bun - although it was in a ponytail in this episode! Shi-ho stops cold in the middle of gymnastics practice, and runs over to the weightlifting practice room. }); she's a weightlifter". I cried a lot during this episode. it doesn't mean they make sense or whatever though... shi-ho is like a textbook for this type of character imo and it's a disappointment with the drama writing for me. And then I go back and watch only the scenes I want to (everything between Bok Ju and JH). Somehow even after all the things she's done to Bokjoo and Joonhyung, I was still happy that she finally won at her competition. Squeeeeeeeee while watching the preview for next ep. Forget Shi ho, that girl has her own problems, can we talk here for a second about how utterly wrong it was what the coach did? Connect with Facebook thank you for this :'). I can totally relate to Bok Joo, and eventhough mine is a little different from her, I also cried my eyes out, several times at that, for a love I could never have. My biggest issue with Shi-ho is time and time again, Joon-hyung said he wasn't interested in her anymore. And also, about Bok Ju's punishment, It could have been worse if they found out much later, so yeah, it might be a blessing in disguise. She needs to learn that you can't bully your way into love, everyone be damed, even the person you love. :). 'Vomiting rainbows'LOL, WOW,I loved this! Although, if where they're going with her character is some type of mental illness, that would be different. _Hasync.push(['Histats.fasi', '1']); Even though she's pretty much done with her cello major charade, at least Bok-ju was happy while it lasted. It took me back to my own first heartbreak and I just felt for her. Like teasing her to make her forget about the sad stuff, wiping her sleeves, and just by being there for her. He goes off to bed, and Dad says to himself that he does feel bad for her. *eveillaugh*. She goes back to the gym, and tells Coach Yoon that Bok-ju is doing better now. Advice is one thing; coercion is another. Coach Choi gets called to the administration office, and tells Bok-ju to go straight back to the training room. I starting cringing when I saw how her coaches (and to a certain extent, her father) initially responded to the situation. Her uncle corrected her dad in this episode that a weightlifter and being feminine are not mutually exclusive. Also makes me wonder how sensitive his ex-gfs were. Then dad goes on to sell the lipstick by saying its currently very popular.. lol.. so smart. ... 7. I appreciate the fluff of this show but I also appreciate how relatable everyone is. Keeping her thoughts and feelings bottled up when those thoughts and feelings were opposite to her professional goals was Bok-ju’s greatest offense, because she’s not going to accomplish anything if she keeps secrets and refuses to be honest with the very people who are trying their hardest to help her. Now that lipstick perfectly goes with her clip ? He goes back to their dorm and looks up at her window, and calls her careless for getting busted. Have i said this before"I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS DRAMA! " or I want her to sort herself out and not tumble into evil second lead territory. Bokjoo's stubbornness is a good quality to have, but in this case, she never would have revealed the reasons behind her actions of her own accord. every classsic second lead has its own motivations for being a jerk. During the Japanese colonial rule of Korea, a Korean surgeon who was raised by a Japanese family becomes a spy for the Korean government. Joong-hyung just need to realize he loves her, because it's written all over his face. The casual physical abuse in the this episode really pissed me off, but what made me even angrier was how the characters just accepted it. And I didn't like how that doctor lady patted her head and basically told Shi-ho her behavior was ok. People need to be told when they are doing something wrong. Even Shi ho I cant seem to hate, although hating her decisions is another matter. Finally the secret's out, even if it wasn't the way we all expected. She has proved that she is destined for greatness and I continue to cheer her on. Meanwhile, Joon Hyung realizes his feelings towards Bok Joo, and he takes a grand gesture to let her know how he feels. It sounds cheesy, but I feel like this drama was made for me, I look at Bok Joo like a reflect of my mirror and I can't avoid how much I want to hug her everytime I see her ;_; . He pops out when Bok-ju gets close enough, triumphant at finally getting a chance to talk to her. But Bok-ju is having a personal crisis that’s at odds with that goal, and unfortunately she picked the worst way to go about pursuing her crush on Jae-yi. I cried when Bok Joo cried her broken heart out on Coach Choi's lap. Bok-ju finishes her punishment squats and Coach Choi comes to talk to her. _Hasync.push(['Histats.start', '1,4411255,4,0,0,0,00010000']); It goes on to show that their relationship is so much more than mere attraction, and that Joon hyung actually cares for her and worries about her. She is an athlete, a desperate one at that. But all baby birds must leave the nest, and it’s time for Bok-ju and Joon-hyung and all their friends to spread their wings. What do you mean? But at 22 or 23, you're an adult. Maybe because of personal experience - I did ballet for a long time, and never had that type of “first crush at fist sight” - but I find Shi-ho’s problems way more relatable than Bok-ju’s. cookie : true, // enable cookies to allow the server to access I don't get why people just overlook the fact that the adults in her lives care much more about her career rather than her as a person. Shared0 Facebook Twitter. Bok joo is perfectly happy on her weight class. It’s not always the young who have growing up to do… sometimes even adults need to mature and learn to accept, speak up, and go for what they want. As she wanted to attract Jae Yi's attention, she naturally would hide the fact that she was a weightlifter, and lied that she was a cellist. They gave up much for her career, so its not like she doesnt has the support. Greed is really a deadly sin. He texts Bok-ju that it’s her crush’s birthday, giggling over what a good friend he’s being. It only takes a bit of urging for Bok-ju to let loose and dance her troubles away (though it’s really more like barely-controlled flailing, and I adore how Joon-hyung copies her dance moves while protecting those close to her). And the pressure? I absolute agree that everyone seems more concerned about their agenda for her instead of her personal well being. It is cultural and not only in Asia,in other comunist countries it was also as well, like the notion"Punishment/spanking/ Joon-hyung is such a great character. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't make friends with people who have shown that they're capable of (1) violating my privacy and personal space and (2) actively working against my interests. But she needs to have some consequences for her actions. I thought that maybe this win would maybe make her calm down a bit with the jealous ex stuff, but it seems it only ramped it up. I love, love, LOVE this childhood-friends-slow-burn romance we have going on with Joonhyung and Bokju. news. You hit the nail on the head! I love that they are friends first! I forgot to add that, obviously, I never have. I can't wait for their lovey dovey scenes, I might die from giddiness~. Hope bok joo wont be nice to her and knock some sense in her nasty head. It's really good that they started as good friends, it's a great foundation for a long lasting relationship. These two kinds of pressures come from very different places. Plus their motives aren't pure. I missed that the doctor lady said that to Shi-ho. Yes, she’s coming unhinged, but she has understandable reasons for coming unhinged, with all the pressure she’s under from so many different sources. Even though she's an athlete she doesn't have to go through anything especially if she didn't want it in the first place. More than the physicality of it, just the act of forcing something on someone who may or may not want it. Wasn't the most clever way to go about things, given that her weight is the lynchpin of her athletic career, but we always do dumb things when we're in love, eh? And there's the whole Coach hitting Bok Ju thing. Episode 7 59m. She needs to learn restraint. And I am seeing Join Hyung becoming more matured. Joon-hyung and Nan-hee is very supportive toward Bok-ju. I must say even though I know Bok Joo is an athlete I think this storyline of forcing her to gain weight is appalling. I honestly had so much hope for si ho and that's the reason I'm really disappointed right now, I really didn't not want her to be that evil/out to make the female lead suffer kind of second female lead but it seems like it's going in that direction, and also because the gymnasts are portrayed as such snobs I thought they would make si ho somebody different. He starts to down the whole bottle himself but fails, and Dad smiles a little at his attempt to save face. This story only keeps getting better and the chemistry between LSK and NJH is great to watch. And they were right, judging by the way Bok-ju went AWOL before even one day had passed. I couldn't resist. Whatever level of compromise is actually comfortable for her. i totally agree that her behavior is ugly & there's no /excuse/ for her actions, but i have to say this is one of the few times i can empathize with the antagonists feelings (not her actions). FAIL! So that gift our PPL lipstick has its place. It doesn't give them the right to act like a douchemonkey. Joon-hyung decides not to press the issue, and throws an arm over her shoulder and takes her to eat, unconcerned about breaking curfew. I really like what you said about si ho, and not how si ho to go away or something like I see on ig and fb and all that. There’s such a bittersweet joy in sending your children off to become adults, and that’s exactly how I feel, seeing this show end. I know that Bok Joo is lying and it turns bad. fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); Bok-ju starts to see how her secret is negatively affecting those around her, due to the way she’s been lying and sneaking around in order to preserve it. And you're right again - things that felt like the end of the world back then, I see as a mere issue or bump in the road now. I'm so drawn to Nam Joo-hyuk in this drama that I'm attuned to every little thing he does, and his character here is the best. ^^. It's that genuine connection that allows them to be comfortable with each other and show their true selves and eventually fall in love with no pretentions. I find it hard to sympathize with her. He hits Bok ju everyday? i don't find her unredeemable but she's gotta work hard to make amends! }); she felt so betrayed and lost.... it really hit home for me and it's the conflict that I'm most looking forward to see how it will be solved. ^__^ Growing up is difficult, and things like first love aren’t always all about sweet kisses and first snows. I will agree that everyone was selfish to some degree and that's what affected their disappointment when they found out Bok Joo was undermining their efforts. But plateau's are a part of being an actual athlete and it seems like Shi-Ho's unwilling to allow herself to have a support system so that she can get through it. Joon-hyung doesn’t smile along with her, and just asks, “Was it you?” He tells her that he saw her at the weightlifting gym, and she asks why he’s asking if he already knows.
